Outdoor Enclosures and Protection

All outdoor electrical enclosures and equipment, including the smart sprinkler controller housing, shall be listed for wet locations and installed to prevent the entrance of moisture. (NEC 110.11, NEC 314.15, NEC 314.28)

Grounding and Bonding

All non-current-carrying metal parts of the electrical system, including enclosures and equipment connected to a line-voltage supply, shall be properly grounded and bonded in accordance with NEC Article 250.

The BPD shall be installed downstream of the water meter and before any branch connections to the irrigation system. Installation and testing must comply with the Illinois Plumbing Code. BPD Installation and Testing

Reduced Pressure Zone (RPZ) assemblies must be installed above ground, protected from freezing, and accessible for testing. Pressure Vacuum Breakers (PVB) must be installed at least 12 inches above the highest outlet of the irrigation system. All BPDs require annual testing by a State of Illinois licensed cross-connection control device inspector. (IL Plumbing Code 890.1140(h))

Water Service Line Depth

All underground potable water service lines, including those supplying an irrigation system, shall be installed with a minimum burial depth of 42 inches below final grade to protect against freezing in DuPage County's climate. (IL Plumbing Code 890 Appendix A, Table N)

Isolation Valve

A readily accessible full-port isolation valve shall be installed immediately upstream of the backflow prevention device to allow for system isolation and maintenance. (IL Plumbing Code 890.1130(b)(1))
