Foundation Frost Depth
All foundations or piers must extend to a minimum depth of 42 inches below finished grade or be designed by a licensed professional engineer to protect against frost heave. IRC R403.1.4.1

The greenhouse structure must be designed to withstand a minimum ground snow load of 30 pounds per square foot (psf) for DuPage County. IRC R301.2.3
Wind Load Design

General Structural Loads

Fire Safety (2024 IRC)

Separation from Dwelling
If the greenhouse is attached to a dwelling, separation walls and openings must comply with requirements for accessory structures to maintain fire resistance ratings. IRC R302.1 (Exterior Walls), R302.6 (Attached Garages - often used as a proxy for accessory structure separation).
Egress
If the greenhouse is designed as an occupied space and exceeds certain dimensions, it may require a minimum of one exit door, readily openable from the inside without a key or special knowledge. IRC R311.1
