Permit Application

Moisture Protection & Waterproofing

Bathroom floors and walls in wet areas must be constructed of approved water-resistant materials. A waterproof membrane (liquid or sheet) is required beneath the finished floor covering in shower and tub areas, which often extends to cover the entire bathroom floor, particularly when heating elements are present. (IRC R702.4.2, R702.4.3)

Floor Assembly Deflection

Floor assemblies shall be designed and constructed to limit deflection. Ensure the subfloor system can adequately support the combined dead and live loads, including the additional weight of the heating system and finished flooring, without excessive deflection. (IRC R301.7, R502.2.1)

Bathroom Ventilation

Bathrooms shall be provided with mechanical exhaust ventilation capable of exhausting at least 50 cubic feet per minute (cfm) to the outdoors. (IRC M1507.3)
