Fan & Duct Sizing

Dedicated Circuit
Power ventilation fans shall be supplied by an individual branch circuit unless specifically listed for group operation with other mechanical ventilation components (NEC 210.23(A)).
Ground-Fault Circuit-Interrupter (GFCI) Protection
All 120-volt, single-phase, 15- and 20-ampere receptacles installed in crawl spaces shall have GFCI protection. Hardwired equipment may also require GFCI protection if located in damp/wet locations or as specified by manufacturer (NEC 210.8(A)(4), NEC 210.8(B)).
Wiring Methods & Materials

Crawl Space Vapor Retarder
An approved vapor retarder, minimum 6-mil (0.15 mm) polyethylene or equivalent, shall be installed over the earth floor of crawl spaces. The vapor retarder shall be lapped not less than 6 inches (152 mm) and shall be sealed at all seams and to the foundation walls (IRC R408.3).
Insulation Requirements
Insulation of crawl space foundation walls, rim joists, and potentially ducts shall comply with energy efficiency requirements of the IRC for DuPage County's climate zone (IRC N1102.2.9, N1102.4.1.1).
Drainage Management
